Early morning light filters through the room,
I burrow further into the covers.
Eyes blink open and my gaze falls upon your bare back.
A warm feeling burbles from my heart.
I wrap my arm around your broad chest,
nestling my lips into your neck.
I breath in the scent of you,
stale cigarettes and distant minty cologne.
You murmur and stir slightly,
meanwhile I memorize your perfect face.
A smile plays on my lips as I admire you sleeping.
I gently rub my fingers through your hair,
thankful that you’re mine–
proud that this is my man,
happy that you’re near,
a little sad that I’ll have to leave soon.
So for now I’ll savor this moment,
I’ll burrow even further into the covers
and silently beg the sun never to rise.
